5 Effective Ways of Green Living

Nowadays, people all over the world are becoming aware of the environment’s current situation. Different environment-oriented organizations are launching campaigns to spread the urgent message of preserving earth’s natural resources for future generations. Climate change is the imminent threat that we are all facing and thus we should act immediately.

One of the solutions for keeping a sustainable eco-friendly lifestyle is green living. This concept is all about saving the earth’s natural resources. Here are some ways to lead a successful green living:

  1. Reduce your monthly electric consumption. With the rampant global energy crisis, using less electricity is perhaps one of the best ways to preserve energy. As we all know, almost 80% of electricity is produced by using fossil fuel. You can set your AC or thermostat a few degrees lower in the winter and a few degrees higher in the summer. Also, you can wash your clothes manually in cold water. 85 percent of the electricity used to machine wash your clothes go to heating the water. Hang your clothes using clothesline for drying to save energy.
  2. Conserve water. Take shorter showers to minimize water usage. Install a low-flow showerhead. Also, whenever you wash the dishes, make sure that the faucet is turned to minimal flow of water only. Use water tumbler or glass when you brush your teeth. If you like plants, you can plant drought-tolerant native plants in your garden. There are plants that need only minimal watering.
  3. Take a walk. If you think that using your can is unnecessary, then you should walk or bike for a change. It saves you gas and money while improving your cardiovascular health. With little cost, these simple improvements can benefit you in more ways than one. You can even reduce traffic and air pollution with this simple act.
  4. Eat healthy. Green living is not only concerned about the nature – it is also concerned about your well being. Support local farmers and buy their products. This way, you can become closer to nature while you avoid consuming artificially-prepared food and drinks.
  5. Avoid buying bottled water. You can drink water directly from your faucet. If you are a little sensitive, you may try to install water filter to remove waterborne diseases. Plastic containers of bottled water are plastic and it would become a major waste problem later. You can also buy your own water containers if you are a little cynical about the cleanliness of the glasses in your office.
